The Nursing Division of the Spiritual Care Association focuses on the spiritual dimension of professional nursing practice including registered nurses, advanced practice and specialty practice nurses from a wide variety of hospital and non-hospital-based settings.
The Nursing Division of the Spiritual Care Association proudly partners with the Westberg Institute of Faith Community Nursing to support the advancement of the spiritual care component of nursing practice as an integral aspect of high-quality whole person care for all including the professional providing the care.

Education and Training Program for Nurses

Foundations of Faith Community Nursing
Foundations of Faith Community Nursing is a 36.5-hour course focusing on the entry-level knowledge necessary for FCN practice. Its sections include spirituality, professionalism, wholistic health and community. This course fulfills the educational requirement for entry into practice in faith community nursing.
The 4-hour Educator Course is a webinar for faculty identified by educational partner organizations that have contracted with the Westberg Institute to provide the 2019 Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course (the 2024 edition is coming soon).

Become an FCN Coordinator
Become a Faith Community Nurse Coordinator by completing the online Leadership and Coordination Webinar Series. This 8-module series will prepare FCNs for Coordinator roles. Participants who complete the series will earn a FCN Coordinator certificate, lapel pin, and will be listed as a Westberg affiliate coordinator. Nursing professional development (CNE) contact hours will be provided. The Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Updates in Transitional Care Series
(Part 1 and Part 2)
The Updates in Transitional Care Series assists the participant to discover best-practice, research-based methods to enhance the care of people experiencing transition from one level of care to another by encouraging collaboration between the hospital and faith community in order to encourage wholistic health. Transitional care enhances the patient discharge experience from hospital to home and strives to eliminate unnecessary hospital re-admissions. Nursing professional development (CNE) contact hours will be provided. The Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

The SCA Online Learning Center offers courses for nurses interested in strengthening their spiritual care training based on standardized, evidence-based scope of practice and quality indicators developed by interdisciplinary panels of experts. Perspectives: Nursing Spiritual Care and Faith Community Nursing Practice is a publication of the SCA Nursing Division and the Westberg Institute. It features research news, educational articles and practical stories about the different aspects of faith community nursing practice along with spiritual care information and resources for nurses in all practice settings.
