Nursing Division

The Nursing Division of the Spiritual Care Association focuses on the spiritual dimension of professional nursing practice including registered nurses, advanced practice and specialty practice nurses from a wide variety of hospital and non-hospital-based settings.

The Nursing Division of the Spiritual Care Association supports the advancement of the spiritual care component of nursing practice as an integral aspect of high-quality whole person care for all including the professional providing the care.

Mission:

Our mission is to support best-practice nursing spiritual care and self-care through education, mentoring, and resources for nursing professionals and nursing-related organizations.

 

Vision:

  1. All nurses will have access to high quality, practical spiritual care information.
  2. Nurses specializing in spiritual care as a component of whole-person care will be recognized for their expertise.
  3. Nursing-related organizations will work in partnership with SCA to improve health outcomes and support the health of professional care providers.

Do you need a tool to introduce the specialty practice of faith community nursing to your faith community? Would you like to know more about faith community nursing and how health ministry works in communities of faith? Then this short webinar created by experts is for you!

Faith Community Nurses: A Short Discussion for Faith Communities about the Benefits Health Ministry Provides is a short nine-minute presentation that describes the role of faith community nurses and the benefits they bring to communities of faith. This webinar is free and we encourage you to share this educational resource with other nurses and communities of faith.


 


Chaplaincy Certification

Become a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC), Credentialed Chaplain (CC), or earn your Spiritual Care Generalist Certificate. This program is open for Westberg affiliates and Nursing Division members. SCA provides all the education, training and tools.

Become an FCN Coordinator

Become an FCN Coordinator

Become a Faith Community Nurse Coordinator by completing the online Leadership and Coordination Webinar Series. This 8-module series will prepare FCNs for Coordinator roles. Participants who complete the series will earn a FCN Coordinator certificate, lapel pin, and will be listed as a Westberg affiliate coordinator. FCN Coordinators will be listed as a Westberg Institute Affiliate FCN Coordinator. Nursing professional development (CNE) contact hours will be provided. The Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Educator Webinar Series

 

Based on the Westberg Institute’s 2019 Foundations of Faith Community Nursing curriculum created by the Westberg Institute, this interactive webinar is for new and experienced lead faculty, additional educators affiliated with an educational partner organization and others interested in becoming educators. By completing the webinar, participants will be better prepared to plan, market, conduct, and evaluate their course offerings according to best-practice standards.

Participants who complete the four-hour educational partner lead faculty course as well as the four supplemental webinars will earn the FCN educators certificate, a lapel pin, and will be listed as Westberg Institute affiliate faculty. Nursing professional development (CNE) contact hours will be provided. The Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Spiritual Care Learing Center

The SCA Online Learning Center offers courses for nurses interested in strengthening their spiritual care training based on standardized, evidence-based scope of practice and quality indicators developed by interdisciplinary panels of experts. These courses or self-guided and can be completed at your own pace. Nursing professional development (CNE) contact hours will be provided. The Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Perspectives

 

Perspectives: Nursing Spiritual Care and Faith Community Nursing Practice is a publication of the Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division and the Westberg Institute. It features research news, educational articles and practical stories about the different aspects of faith community nursing practice along with spiritual care information and resources for nurses in all practice settings. Perspectives is published twice annually with occasional special themed issues and is a free benefit exclusively available to SCA members.
